Beef noodles in Ipoh

Do you fancy eating 'ngau yuk fan' (beef ball noodles)? There are many varities of this noodle soup and there is one famous stall in Ipoh that is for you to try.
This stall is actually famous for beef brisket (ngau lam) noodles but since I am not a fan of beef brisket I opt for the usual safe option of beef ball instead of the briskets.
The beef ball is nice and springy and the soup clear and tasty. And not to forget the chilly sauce is special. Not too spicy but just right and tasty.
Feeling hungry?

Tau fu fah

Tau fu fah ( bean curd dessert) is a dessert sold in many places and well liked by many. However, to find good ones is not easy. Most of the time, you would find the tau fu fah too lumpy and thick.

In Ipoh, there is a nice little stall that sells good tau fu fah. It is pretty famous in Ipoh and most people would know it. I even saw tours buses stopping by and looks like it is a tourist attraction.

The tau fu fah is soft and silky. The texture is smooth. The tau cheung( soya bean drink) is nice as well. However, be fore-warned the tau fu fah 's portion is small. Maybe you will need to eat 2 bowls to fulfil your taste-buds.

Wat tan hor ipoh style

Besides being famous for Ipoh sar hor fun, there is a little gem in Ipoh to be discovered. If you like 'wat tan hor',( fried noodle with egg gravy) this shop is for you to try.
The 'wat tan hor' is bit different from the ones you find elsewhere. The version of this dish has more gravy than the usual. The 'sar hor fun' noodles in this dish is ultra ' silky and soft'. The gravy is ultra nice as well. Very very tasty!
The other thing this shop is famous for is the wait for the noodles to be served. Minimum wait is 45 minutes for the dish to be served. But well worth the wait I must say!
This shop is open at night.

Lovely Curry Laksa in small town Ipoh!
This is one of the best curry noodles that I have tasted. It is not the lemak curry noodles as it is more like the Sarawak style curry noodles with no lemak but with plenty of spice.
The taste is absolutely great and the spice will tantalise your taste buds once you take a bite.
So, if you do stop by Ipoh, this is a must try! This shop is easy to find near the Ipoh police station.

Kedai Xin Quan Fang
Jalan Sultan Iskandar( Hugh Low Street)

Hakka noodles to die for?

Ipoh is one of my favourite town in Malaysia to visit. To be honest, I have not been to many towns in Malaysia and my holidays have always been spent going to Ipoh for a foodie hunt.

One of my favourite noodle shop sells Hakka noodles. This is one of the best in town that I have tasted. The noodles is nicely cooked with a nice topping of fried mince pork. The chilli blends well with the noodles and you could choose the different types of meat balls, squid balls to go with it!

The service is pretty quick as well. Rumour has it that this stall is more than 50 years old.

Okay, the name of the shop is :

Kedai Yin Yau Kui (previously)/ Kedai Paris (moved to)

Jalan Sultan Iskandar,

Ipoh

Ipoh Sliced bean sprouts chicken - the best in town?

Love this?

Next stop if you visit Ipoh, is to have a taste of the super yummy delicious Ipoh 'nga choi gai' ( Ipoh bean sprouts sliced chicken).

For those of you unfamiliar with Malaysian food, this is one dish to try. It is basically a combination of flat noodles in clear soup served with boiled chicken in soya sauce. And there is a plate of bean sprouts in soya sauce to go with it.
The simplicity of this dish does not mean that you could cook this dish at home. It looks simple but if you ask around for the recipe, it never taste like the one you get from this shop. The chicken is just nicely done, the texture of the meat is just nice. Not too soft and not too hard. And perhaps the best is the soya-sauce based juice. You could have a bite on the chicken and the juice soaks into the chicken meat just right!
The bean sprouts that accompany the dish is super crunchy. And the size certainly is comparatively bigger than the usual bean-sprouts that you could find in some places.
The shop I am referring to is :-
Kedai Cowan Street
Ayam Tauge and Koitiau ( Yes it is spelt that way)
Jalan Ekram
Ipoh
Price- Moderate( a tad pricier than the usual , just a little)
Taste- 8/10
Opening times- at nights only
By the way, this is the shop recommended by the usual Ipoh folks, I think this shop is more authentic than some popularise shops selling the same dish in Ipoh.
Try it lah!

In the sweltering heat- how about a glass of Ipoh Ice White Coffee

In Malaysia, where the sweltering heat overwhelms any fellow Malaysians, nothing beats a quick fix of an icey cold drink! How about a glass of Ipoh Ice White Coffee ?

There's a constant battle on where is the best Ipoh White Coffee in town. Some say it is Suan Yuan Foong others say it's Suan Yuan Loong. And Nam Heong is another name constantly mentioned by bloggers and fellow Malaysians.

But there's a coffee shop that I think serves the best coffee in town. I have a few relatives who lives in Ipoh and they brought me there and indeed it tastes great. The coffee aroma is strong and the coffee is milky which I love. It is not too sweet and there is enough ice to make it icey cold!! Perfect for the humid weather. This is a must stop for visitors to Ipoh. Maybe for coffee lovers you could go around tasting which serves the best ice coffee. There are all located in close vicinity around each other. Okay, the parking is a bit difficult especially during peak hours.

Whoops! I forgot to mention the coffee shop I am referring to. It's-

Kedai Kopi Ah Chow

Same row as Suan Yuan Foong coffee shop

Jalan Bandar Timah

Ipoh Old town

Taste- 8/10

Price- cheap , i think around RM 1.60
